The World Health Organisation (WHO), in collaboration with Protection Without Borders (POWIB) and the Yobe State Ministry of Health, has trained community outreach workers on the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (PRSEAH) as part of efforts to respond to the cholera outbreak in the state.
The three-day training, held in Damaturu, targeted outreach workers drawn from Nangere/Potiskum, Fune/Damaturu and Gujba Local Government Areas, which are among the cholera-affected communities.
According to the organisers, the training was designed to equip participants with skills in risk identification of sexual exploitation and abuse, effective community engagement, and awareness creation on PRSEAH using local languages and formally translated key messages.
Other areas of focus included knowledge of existing reporting pathways and mechanisms to ensure accountability and community safety.
POWIB, a humanitarian organisation, said it remains committed to ensuring that communities are safe and protected from exploitation and abuse during emergency response operations.
