KoThe World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Dr. Ndiame Diop, arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on a two-day working visit on Monday.
Dr. Diop was in Maiduguri to inspect World Bank-funded school projects and other facilities impacted by the September 10 flood disaster in the area, and expected to commission some educational projects executed by governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
The World Bank country Director, was received at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri by the commissioner of education, science, technology, and innovation, Lawan Abba Wakilbe, and the Chief Adviser to Governor Zulum Dr. Mairo Mandara.
The august visitor was treated to a vibrant cultural display by the major tribes of Borno.
During the visit, the Commissioner accompanied Dr. Diop on tours of key educational facilities, with the first port of call at Government Technical Secondary School Njimtilo, assessing the students at work.
The ln to Government Day Secondary School Bulumkutu and the ongoing AGILE School project at Abubakar ibn Garbai layout (formerly Tudun Wada) had the delegation briefed adequately.
The delegation also assessed reconstruction proposals for flood-damaged facilities at the Kullogumna Junior Secondary School with a display of plans for reconstruction.
The Government Technical College Goni Kachallari and the Borno State Vocational Enterprise Institute in Muna were the last visited by the delegation.
At each location, Commissioner of Education Lawan Abba Wakilbe provided detailed updates on the progress achieved and the challenges encountered.
Dr. Diop’s observations and contributions during the assessments reflected a strong commitment to ensuring the alignment of World Bank funds with impactful and sustainable projects.
Accompanying the commissioner during the receiving of Dr. Diop included the Special Adviser on education to the governor of Borno State, Hon. Abubakar Tijjani; MCRP Coordinator Hon. Babazanna Abdulkarim: and the AGILE Coordinator Engineer Ibrahim Baba and host of other top government officials.
