Governor Buni, in an uplifting address during a dinner hosted by him on Friday in honor of the 38th National Qu’ranic Recitation Competition at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Damaturu, emphasized the profound significance of the competition.
In a statement released by the Senior Special Assistant on Communications and Strategy, Yusuf Ali , the Governor highlighted the potential of the Qura’nic Competition to illuminate the minds of all, especially the Muslim youth, by showcasing the luminous teachings of Islam encapsulated within the Holy Qur’an.
The Governor noted that the competition will further enlighten all and sundry as well as exposing Muslim youths to the bright side of life as preached by Islam through the Holy Qur’an.
Governor Buni reminded all that now is the time Nigeria required more development programmes such as the quranic recitation to re-channel the minds of the youths toward positive ventures.
He said: “as a nation engaged in the battle against extremism, this programme will, among other initiatives, promote true understanding of the Quran and religion of Islam and help make our young people less vulnerable to beliefs that are not consistent with the teachings of the religion.
“As you all know, Yobe State has its fair share of the Boko Haram challenges and it is to the glory of God and prayers that we are now enjoying peace in this part of the state and even hosted the National Qur’anic competition peacefully.
“There is nothing that prayers cannot achieve. We should continue to pray so that we will overcome all our challenges and have permanent peace and stability in our state and by implication in the country as a whole.
Governor Buni said hosting the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition for the second time since 2003, here in Yobe state, the citadel of Qur’an and Islamic Scholarship is not only a homecoming but also timely as it coincides with the education revitalisation efforts of the government.
“As a government, we will continue investing in the education sector to ensure our citizens have full access to both Islamic and western education as part of its mandatory obligation.”
Governor Buni emphasized that the Quran stands as a guide to life in all facets of life. “Islam is a complete way of life. Whatever you want to do must be according to the Qu’ran. It is very important that our children must memorise and work with the Qu’ran. Whether as leaders or followers, we will not do bad things if we continue to work with the Qu’ran”.
He commended the local and national organizers for the remarkable success recorded so far stressing that the unity, understanding, cooperation and brotherhood displayed during the competition will be sustained.
The dinner is a celebration of the Quran, unity and brotherhood. It was an extraordinary leaving the invited guests inspired and filled with a sense of community.
