Governor Mai Mala Buni has appealed to foreign missions and development partners for support in implementing the Yobe State Action Plan on Durable Solutions.
This came during a meeting with ambassadors and representatives from various countries and international organizations, following the launch of the action plan by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday.
Governor Buni emphasized the state’s commitment to achieving lasting peace and sustainable development in northeast Nigeria, acknowledging the crucial role of the international community in this endeavor.
He expressed gratitude for the ongoing support and expertise provided by international partners, particularly in addressing development gaps in healthcare, education, agriculture, public infrastructure, and water facilities.
The governor announced the establishment of a resource mobilization team, chaired by himself, to drive the state’s efforts in securing support and resources. He appealed for linkages and networking with Geneva and other international donors to achieve the state’s goals.
Earlier, Secretary to the State Government Baba Mallam Wali highlighted the significant contributions of the international community and development partners to Yobe State’s development aspirations. He praised Governor Buni’s leadership and commitment to steering the state towards sustainable development.
Suleiman Dauda, Yobe State SOLID focal person and project coordinator, presented an overview of the Yobe State Action Plan, emphasizing its alignment with existing state policies and development goals. He stressed the plan’s focus on key priorities such as human rights protection, security, infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, livelihood, and economic growth.
The meeting received enthusiastic commitments from various ambassadors, who pledged support for Yobe State’s efforts to achieve durable solutions in a coordinated manner. They commended the state’s unique position as the only Nigerian state with both a State Action Plan on Durable Solutions and a domesticated State IDP policy.
Attendees included representatives from the UK, USAID, Norway, Canada, World Bank, Japan, Germany, EU, Spain, and Switzerland, among others.
