Yobe Govt Begins Payment of Increased Scholarships to FUGA Students

The Yobe State Government has commenced the disbursement of domestic scholarships and bursaries to indigenes of the state studying at the Federal University Gashua (FUGA), following the resumption of academic activities at the institution.

The Yobe State Scholarships Board disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the exercise is being carried out in line with the directive of Governor Mai Mala Buni, who approved an upward review of students’ bursaries to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians.

Under the revised package, undergraduate students are to receive ₦46,000, postgraduate students ₦110,000, while diploma and certificate students will receive ₦26,000. The Board said the enhanced bursaries represent a significant increase from previous payments and are designed to cover a substantial portion of tuition and other academic expenses.

According to the Board, the disbursement exercise is scheduled to commence on Thursday, January 15, 2026, and will run through Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

The Scholarships Board urged all beneficiaries to cooperate fully with its officials and ensure that information provided, particularly bank account details, is accurate and active to avoid delays in payment.

Students seeking further clarification were advised to contact the NUYOSS Local Chapter or the Students Affairs Directorate of the Yobe State Scholarships Board.

The intervention, the Board noted, further underscores the commitment of the Buni administration to prioritising education and investing in the future of Yobe State’s youth.
