The Yobe State Government has issued a statement correcting a misleading online report published by Daily Trust Newspapers, which claimed that youth destroyed billboards in Damaturu during the launch of the State Agricultural Empowerment Programme.
According to the statement signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe State Governor, the report is “false, inaccurate, and misleading.” The launch, which took place yesterday, was a huge success without any incidents of rancor or destruction of property.
The government explained that the scramble for flex posters, iron rods, and other materials by youth after the event is a common practice, seen as a form of “booty” and not an act of vandalism.
The statement demands an immediate withdrawal and apology from Daily Trust Newspapers for publishing the false information, emphasizing the need for ethical journalism practices. The reporter on the ground has denied sending the misleading story to the media house.
The public is advised to disregard the false publication, and the government assures that the launch of the State Agricultural Empowerment Programme was a success without any incidents.
