The Yobe State Government has recruited 948 primary school teachers to enhance manpower and improve the quality of basic education across the state.
The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umaru Hassan Babayo, disclosed this on Sunday after a meeting with Governor Mai Mala Buni, in Damaturu.
Babayo said the new recruitment exercise was aimed at filling existing manpower gaps in the state’s primary education sector.
“Most of those recruited were volunteer teachers who had been rendering services without formal engagement by the state government,” he said.
He added that the board has commenced workshops and training sessions for the newly employed teachers to equip them with additional skills for effective and efficient teaching.
The SUBEB chairman charged the new teachers to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government and assured that the board would intensify supervision and inspection to ensure productivity and accountability.
In his remarks, Governor Buni commended the board for the exercise and urged it to ensure that only qualified individuals were given the opportunity to serve.
“The board should ensure proper training of the new teachers to get the best out of them. Government will continue to support SUBEB to promote efficiency and productivity for the state to achieve its goal of taking education to greater heights,” the governor stated.
The recruitment is part of ongoing reforms by the Yobe State Government to improve access to quality education and address teacher shortages, particularly in rural communities.
