Yobe Govt Hands Over Grazing Reserve to Fulani Herdsmen

The Yobe State Government has directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to hand over the newly established Nazari Livestock Development Centre to leaders of the Fulani herdsmen.

The centre, located in Jakusko Local Government Area, was established to boost livestock production and provide socio-economic benefits to the herdsmen.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry’s Chief Information Officer, Aishatu Tijjani, Governor Mai Mala Buni said the handing over became necessary as the multi-billion naira project is ready for occupation and usage.

“The construction of the Nazari Livestock Development Centre is a deliberate policy by our administration to settle herdsmen in one place to concentrate on their grazing business and enrol their children in school,” Buni said.

The centre has facilities including a milk collection centre, human and animal health facilities, primary school for nomadic children, feed mill centre, artificial insemination centre, breed improvement centre, warehouses and aqua-culture ponds.

The governor reassured of his administration’s commitment to supporting the grazing reserve for socio-economic growth and development of livestock production in the state.
