The Yobe State House of Assembly has called on Governor Mai Mala Buni to provide assistance to kidney transplant patients in the state. The lawmakers made the appeal during a session on Wednesday, citing the increasing number of patients in need of support.
Members representing Machina, Damaturu central, Bade West, and Mamudo constituencies, Nasiru Hassan Yusuf, Mohammed Isa Bello, Kachalla Ajiya Maina, and Sanda Kara Bade, moved a motion on Friday of urgent public importance, highlighting the challenges faced by kidney transplant patients.
They emphasized the need for government, philanthropists, and donor agencies to support these patients in procuring their drugs, which are expensive and essential for their survival.
Supporting the motion, lawmakers representing Gujba, Jakusko, and Bursari constituencies, Bulama Bukar, Adamu Dala Dogo, and Babagana Zanna, among others, described the motion as crucial and requiring the government’s prompt response.
Speaker of the House, Chiroma Buba Mashio, assured that the Assembly will collaborate with the executive arm to find a lasting solution to the challenges faced by kidney disease patients in the state.
The lawmakers’ call for support comes as many kidney transplant patients in Yobe State struggle to access the necessary drugs to manage their condition, due to economic hardship. The government’s assistance is seen as crucial in helping these patients access the necessary treatment and improve their quality of life.
