Yobe Ready For Partnership With IOM – Gov. Buni

Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to strengthen the state’s resettlement, reconstruction, and recovery efforts.

Governor Buni gave the assurance while receiving the Chief of Mission of IOM Nigeria, Sharon Dimanche, during a courtesy visit on Saturday in Damaturu.

The governor noted that the Yobe State Government has taken proactive steps in addressing the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), including the development and implementation of a State Policy on IDPs.

“We have committed five per cent of our state budget to improve infrastructure and facilitate the dignified resettlement and integration of displaced persons,” Governor Buni said.

He added that his administration had made significant investments in critical sectors such as education, agriculture, healthcare, roads, electricity, and water supply to accelerate recovery in affected communities.

“I am happy this has worked for us, and we do not have IDP camps in the state as our displaced persons have been resettled with dignity, which has become a point of reference,” he stated.

In her remarks, Ms. Dimanche lauded Governor Buni’s leadership and commitment to improving the lives of displaced persons in Yobe State.

“It takes a leader with a special heart to show such great concern to the resettlement of displaced persons with dignity,” she said.

She further assured the governor of IOM’s commitment to supporting Yobe State in achieving sustainable recovery and development.
