Yobe SEC Approves Key Initiatives, Infrastructure Projects

In a media briefing held on Thursday, the Yobe State Executive Council, chaired by Deputy Governor Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, announced significant decisions taken during their session at the Government House, Damaturu.

One of the key decisions made was the approval of the “Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge” for local government councils in the state.

This initiative, backed by UNICEF and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, aims to enhance primary healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.

It encompasses 12 indicators, with the potential for Yobe State to receive recognition among the 36 states if its LGAs meet specific activity benchmarks.

Moreover, the council sanctioned monetary rewards for the best-performing local governments at zonal and state levels under the PHC Leadership Challenge.

In a bid to bolster climate resilience and agricultural planning, the council also approved the establishment of weather stations in Damaturu, Machina, and Gulani LGAs, with an allocated budget of N189.9 million.

Addressing infrastructural development, the council revisited road construction projects across the state.

Variations in costs were approved for several roads, including the Chumbusko-Tagali road, Damaturu-Kalallawa dual carriageway, Nguru-Balanguwa road, and Balanguwa-Kumaganam road.

These adjustments, necessitated by inflationary trends, reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring project completion amidst economic challenges.

Additionally, allocations were endorsed for the rehabilitation and extension of the Banquet Multipurpose Hall at Government House, Damaturu, and the provision of furniture and equipment for newly constructed apartment houses at the Presidential Lodge, Damaturu.
