The Yobe State Executive Council (EXCO) has announced an array of completed infrastructural projects across key sectors for commissioning, aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of residents.
The Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, disclosed this after the council’s first meeting of the year. He said the projects span healthcare, agriculture, education, road construction, and empowerment initiatives.
The council also resolved to embark on a modernization initiative to transform Damaturu into a befitting state capital in 2025.
Major Projects Ready for Commissioning
The EXCO expressed confidence that several legacy projects nearing completion will soon be inaugurated. These include:
Markets: Potiskum Modern Market, Ngalda Market, and Yunusari Market (90% completed); Geidam Modern Market (75% completed); Potiskum Truck Transit Park (90% completed).
Agriculture: Four SESAME SEED processing factories in Machina, Nguru, Potiskum, and Damaturu are completed and ready for use.
Road Infrastructure
The council highlighted significant road projects completed or near completion:
Completed Roads: Phase one of the Fika-Maluri road, Kukuri-Chukuriwa-Dawasa (95%), Karasuwa-Galu-Gashu’a, Chumbusko-Tagali, and Danchuwa-Garin Bingel roads.
Ongoing Roads: Gashu’a-Masaba (48%), Nguru-Balanguwa (75%), Balanguwa-Kumaganam (60%), and township roads in Potiskum, Damaturu, Geidam, and Gashu’a.
Flood Repairs: Damaturu-Buni Yadi, Damaturu-Bayamari, Potiskum-Gashu’a, Bayamari-Yunusari, and Geidam-Bukarti roads have been repaired following last year’s floods.
Healthcare and Education
The EXCO noted the delivery of advanced medical equipment donated by World Medical Relief in the United States, including hospital beds, surgical tools, ventilators, and patient monitors.
The council also celebrated the graduation of the Buni Scholars in India, highlighting their contribution to increasing qualified personnel in various fields despite economic challenges.
