Adamawa State Ministry for Entrepreneurship Development, has joined in the celebration of 2024 World Youth Skills Day with the theme, “Youth Skills for Peace and Development”.
15th of July annually is observed as World Youth Skills Day to raise awareness about the lack of skills that prevent young people from working.
The event, which took place at PAWECA Conference Hall, featured exhibition among others.
Commissioner for Entrepreneurship Development, Hon. Hammanjumba Gatugel used the occasion and tasked youths to take advantage of state government efforts towards providing them with skills for self reliance.
Hammanjumba Gatugel, noted that the day is designated to celebrate the Youth Skills Day world-wide and emphasised the immense potentials of youth to drive towards the UNs Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs as well as encourage them to start acquiring skills that will help them achieve personal success and fulfilment.
Represented by Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Kwaji Duguri, the commissioner said Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintri, acknowledged the contributions of youth and women towards economic growth, peace and development, and created the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development and re-positioned Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency, PAWECA.
According to him the governor also re-vitalised the state Skills Acquisition Training Centres in order for the youth and women to attend their full potentials in their various endeavours of skills development as well as providing opportunities to transform ideas into viable businesses through the “Fintri e-wallet programme” and enjoined them to take advantage of the initiative.
In a keynote address, Special Adviser on Entrepreneurship, Doctor Salihu Zumo, urged youths to learn new skills and embrace challenges to enable them be self reliant as well as contribute to the economic development of the state.
Director General of Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency PAWECA, Doctor Michael Zira, who was represented by Director Monitoring and Evaluation, Sani Abdulkadir said government has powered the agency to fight poverty through the provision of skills to youths in the state.
In a welcome address, Director of Entrepreneurship, Ibrahim Usman said the event was the first to observe the global day and acknowledged that the event also provides avenue to harness skills and knowledge that enables youths to be self reliant.
Munira Mohammed who spoke on behalf of entrepreneurs, thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his unwavering support and committed towards creative and innovative society.
