A truck carrying Ramadan palliatives reportedly sent by Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was looted by a group of youths in Gombe State. The incident occurred as Seyi Tinubu continued his tour of northern states, where he has been launching feeding programs for the less privileged during Ramadan.
Videos circulating online show young people climbing onto a stationary truck, removing cartons of food supplies, and throwing them to others on the ground. Items in the looted cartons reportedly included rice, sugar, oil, salt, and pasta. Sources said two trucks carrying 3,500 cartons of palliatives were allocated to Gombe, with one truck’s contents distributed as planned while the second was intercepted and emptied by the youths. Reports suggest that those excluded from the earlier distribution at the APC Secretariat may have instigated the looting.
Seyi Tinubu’s Ramadan outreach has sparked mixed reactions, with some welcoming the initiative while others criticize it as inadequate for addressing the region’s socio-economic challenges.
Shamsuddeen Bala Mohammed, son of Bauchi State Governor, took to Facebook to call for more sustainable empowerment programs, urging Seyi Tinubu to provide employment opportunities, business funds, and ICT training instead of food donations.
While the program is officially presented as part of the Renewed Hope Youth Engagement (RHYE) initiative, some observers see it as a strategic move to strengthen President Tinubu’s political influence in the North amid emerging opposition.
Efforts to obtain a response from the APC regarding the looting incident were unsuccessful, as party officials declined to comment. Security agencies have also not issued any statements on the event, and it remains unclear if any arrests have been made.
