Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering efforts in combating terrorism and insurgency in the North-East, particularly in Borno State.
Zulum gave the commendation on Thursday in Maiduguri while receiving the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, who paid him a courtesy visit alongside senior military officers.
He praised the sacrifices of the military in restoring peace to the region and pledged his administration’s continued support for their operations.
“Your dedication and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism are well noted, and we remain deeply grateful for your efforts to restore normalcy in Borno State,” Zulum said.
The governor urged the military to intensify its operations to ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes.
Responding, Oluyede expressed appreciation for the state government’s consistent support for the military, noting that such collaboration had strengthened the fight against insurgency.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to creating a secure environment for citizens to return to their normal lives. We will continue to work closely with the government and other stakeholders to address the security challenges,” he said.
The COAS noted that his visit to Maiduguri was part of his operational tour to assess the readiness of troops and boost their morale in ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
