Zulum Appoints Kori as Borno Investment Agency DG

Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno has approved the appointment of Dr Sa’id Alkali Kori as the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Borno State Investment Promotion Agency.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Spokesperson, Dauda Iliya.

According to the statement, Kori, an entrepreneur and investment and infrastructure finance expert, holds a PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences with a focus on Intellectual Capital from the University of London, United Kingdom.

He currently serves as the Honorary Special Adviser on International Relations and Investment to the Governor of Yobe State and Technical Adviser to the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum.

Kori is also the Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Thinklab Group Limited, an innovation and development finance firm, and Chairman of the Board of Nigeria Food Corporation.

The statement said he had structured financing exceeding 200 million dollars for critical infrastructure projects in housing, healthcare and road networks.

According to the statement, the appointment is for an initial term of four years.

Zulum also approved the appointment of Laminu Lawan Awana, Abubakar Ahmed Askira and Danladi Alfaki Isa as members of the agency’s governing board, representing the three senatorial zones of the state.

The appointments were made in accordance with Section 6(b) of the Borno State Investment Promotion Law 2026 (as amended).

The statement noted that the appointees are seasoned professionals in trade and investment, development financing, housing and mortgage finance.

It added that the board would also include representatives, not below the rank of director, from several ministries, departments and agencies as ex-officio members.

They include the Ministries of Commerce, Trade and Industries; Works; Housing and Energy; Justice; Agriculture and Natural Resources; Livestock; Planning; Finance; and Local Government and Emirate Affairs, as well as the Borno State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS).

The board will also include two representatives from the organised private sector in Borno State, while the Director General of the agency will serve as secretary.

According to the statement, all the appointments take immediate effect.

Zulum expressed confidence that Kori’s experience and the collective expertise of the board members would help position the state as a hub for domestic and foreign investment.

He added that the board would also promote viable Public-Private Partnerships to accelerate economic revitalisation and sustainable development in the state.
