Zulum Approves ₦3.4bn for 301 Students Studying Abroad

Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno has approved the release of ₦3.4 billion to support 301 students from the state studying in China, India, Malaysia and Egypt.

The Executive Secretary, Borno State Scholarship Board, Dr. Bala Isa, disclosed this at a press briefing in Maiduguri on Wednesday.

He said the funds, totaling ₦3,419,356,654.43, would cover tuition, accommodation, medical insurance, residence permits, visa extensions and a three-month upkeep allowance for the beneficiaries.

Isa described the governor’s approval as a demonstration of his strong commitment to education and human capital development in the state.

He commended the Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, and staff of the Board for their dedication in ensuring the success of the programme.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the National President of the National Union of Borno State Students (NUBOSS), Abdullahi Ahmadu Umara, expressed gratitude to the governor for what he called his consistent efforts to transform education in the state.

He also lauded Wakilbe as “The Architect of Modern Education” and commended Isa for his leadership, assuring that students at home and abroad remained grateful.

Isa urged the beneficiaries to focus on their studies, remain law-abiding, and return with knowledge and skills that would contribute to rebuilding Borno.
