Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has expressed his profound condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the death of seven journalists in a fatal road accident on Monday.

The Governor conveyed his deep sympathy through his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, at Jalo Waziri House in Gombe. There, he met with members of the NUJ led by its National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, alongside management and staff of the Gombe station of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), who were receiving condolences.

Governor Zulum described the loss of seven media professionals at once as both devastating and heartbreaking.

“I was deeply shocked to hear the news of the death of seven journalists, most of whom are staff of the Nigerian Television Authority, in a tragic motor accident. My prayers and thoughts are with the government and people of Gombe State, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, the NTA, their immediate families, and the entire working journalists,” Zulum stated.

He prayed for the repose of the deceased souls and for the swift recovery of those injured.

In response, the President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, thanked Governor Zulum for his solidarity during this difficult period.

He stated that the loss was not only to Gombe State but to the nation as a whole, noting that death is inevitable.

“I wish to, on behalf of all working journalists, convey our sincere appreciation to Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for dispatching his media adviser to condole us over the loss of our colleagues. We are indeed grateful,” Alhassan remarked.

After the visit, the Special Adviser on Media accompanied the NUJ President, NTA General Managers from Gombe, Damaturu, Bauchi, and Birnin Kebbi, alongside other union members, to visit the families of the deceased in Gombe town.
