Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has donated N50 million to the Federal University of Health Sciences (FUHSA), Azare, Bauchi State, for the purchase of laboratory equipment for the Dentistry Programme.
Zulum also awarded a contract for the construction of six three-bedroom houses to serve as visiting professorial quarters in the university.
The Vice Chancellor of FUHSA, Prof. Bala Audu, disclosed this during the institution’s third matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session on Saturday in Azare.
Audu commended Zulum for his generosity, stating that the governor also granted scholarships to all Borno students in the university.
“We appreciate His Excellency, Gov. Babagana Zulum, for his support to this university. He has donated N50 million for the purchase of laboratory equipment for the Dentistry Programme.
“Additionally, he has awarded a contract for the construction of six three-bedroom houses for visiting professors and has offered scholarships to all students from Borno studying at FUHSA,” Audu said.
The VC also lauded Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State for introducing a pre-service scheme for students of Medicine, Dentistry, and Nursing at FUHSA, urging him to extend the scheme to other programmes.
He commended President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, for upgrading the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, to a teaching hospital to serve as a training facility for FUHSA students.
Audu also praised the North East Governors Forum for facilitating the construction of a Centre for Child and Maternal Health in FUHSA through the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
He warned the newly matriculated students against engaging in social vices, saying the university had a zero-tolerance policy for cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, and other misconducts.
“Students must adhere to the university’s core values of discipline and excellence. Violators of these rules will face the disciplinary committee and risk expulsion,” he said.
