Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has honoured a frontline health worker, Ishaku Dickson, with a fully furnished three-bedroom house and approved automatic employment for his wife into the Borno State Civil Service.
The presentation was made on Monday night in Monguno during the governor’s official visit to the area, drawing applause from residents and health professionals who described the gesture as timely and motivating.
Governor Zulum said the reward was in recognition of Dickson’s dedication, professionalism and compassion in the delivery of healthcare services to people of Monguno and neighbouring communities, despite the security and operational challenges associated with working in a frontline environment.
According to the governor, the decision to grant automatic employment to Dickson’s wife was also aimed at supporting the family of a public servant who has made significant personal sacrifices in the line of duty.
“Our administration believes in recognising and rewarding excellence, especially among those who serve under difficult conditions. This is part of our commitment to motivating health workers and strengthening healthcare delivery across the state,” Zulum said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue investing in the welfare of health personnel as a strategy to improve service delivery and build a resilient health system in Borno.
The governor’s gesture was widely praised by community members and health workers at the event, who said it would encourage greater commitment and dedication among frontline workers in the state.
They commended the state government for prioritising human capital development and recognising the sacrifices of professionals serving in conflict-affected areas.
