Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno on Sunday became the first party member to register on the All Progressives Congress (APC) E-Membership platform in the state, as he called on leaders and members to mobilise widely for mass enrolment.
The governor inaugurated the exercise at the APC State Secretariat in Maiduguri, where he completed his registration on the digital platform to formally kick-start the process.
Zulum said his decision to be the first to register was to demonstrate commitment to the digital reform and encourage party members to embrace the initiative.
According to him, the success of the e-registration exercise depends largely on active participation and effective mobilisation at the grassroots.
The governor urged party leaders, elected officials and stakeholders to return to their constituencies and sensitise residents across the 27 local government areas on the importance of registering on the platform.
He stressed that a strong and credible membership database would enhance internal democracy, transparency and organisational strength within the party.
“If other states can register millions of members, Borno State can do even more with collective effort and proper mobilisation,” Zulum said.
The governor also directed party chairmen to increase the number of trained registration agents and ensure adequate deployment of digital devices to facilitate seamless registration in communities.
Earlier, the APC State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Bello Ayuba, said the governor’s early registration had set the tone for the exercise and boosted confidence among party members.
Ayuba thanked Zulum for approving funds to support the exercise across the state and noted that the digital platform would address challenges associated with manual registration.
He added that Borno had earlier hosted the North-East Train-the-Trainers Programme on E-Registration in November 2025 to prepare officials for the rollout.
Also speaking, the APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Rt. Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, described the governor’s action as a strong signal of leadership and unity within the party.
The State Coordinator of APC E-Registration, Hon. Auwal Hamza, said the platform provides secure digital profiling and real-time data that would improve party planning and accountability.
The event was attended by party leaders, government officials and stakeholders from across Borno.
