Zulum Transmits Power to Deputy, Proceeds on One-Month Vacation

Governor Professor Babagana Zulum has transmitted power to his Deputy, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, to serve as Acting Governor, as he proceeds on a one-month vacation.

According to an executive communication read by the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Honourable Abdulkarim Lawan, during an emergency session on Friday, Kadafur will act as Governor from June 10 to July 8, 2024.

The move is in accordance with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended and aims to ensure the continuity of governance and smooth running of the state’s affairs in the Governor’s absence.

Governor Zulum commended the cordial working relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms, and the House leader, Honourable Dige Muhammad, moved a motion for the legislatures to proceed on recess and return on July 9, 2024.

This is not the first time Governor Zulum has transmitted power to his Deputy, as he did similarly during his first tenure when he performed the annual Hajj exercise.

With this development, Alhaji Umar Kadafur will act as Governor of Borno State for the next month, ensuring the continued functioning of the state government.
