Zulum Attends Qur’anic Graduation For Orphans In Maiduguri

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday attended the first Qur’anic graduation ceremony of the Fatima Mele Kyari Memorial Center for Qur’anic Memorization and Islamic Studies, held at the Miraj International School, Maiduguri.

The ceremony marked a milestone for the center, which was established in 2019 to provide Qur’anic and formal education to orphans and vulnerable children.

In his remarks, the school’s proprietor, Dr. Goni Usman, said the center began operations with 200 orphans and has continued to grow in strength and impact. He added that some of the orphans were preparing to sit for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).

The event featured lectures by renowned scholars, including Sheikh Abba Alamin Banki, who spoke in Kanuri on “The Importance of Studying the Qur’an and the Benefits of Supporting Orphans,” and Professor Yahuza Abdullahi, who emphasized the enduring value of Qur’anic education in a lecture delivered in Hausa.

Governor Zulum, who personally presented certificates to the 20 graduating orphans, commended the management of the school for their dedication to both Islamic and formal education.

“I am deeply impressed by the remarkable achievements of this center and the dedication of its management,” Zulum said. “I urge everyone to continue to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in Borno State and Nigeria at large.”

The governor announced a donation in support of the 20 graduating orphans and pledged additional government assistance to the school through the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

In appreciation, the proprietor, Dr. Goni Usman, presented Governor Zulum with a set of Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim collections as a token of gratitude.
