Taraba Governor Kefas to Officially Join APC on Wednesday

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has confirmed that he will formally defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, November 19, bringing an end to months of speculation surrounding his political direction.

Governor Kefas announced his decision on Sunday while speaking to journalists during an inspection tour of ongoing renovation works at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo. He said his move was guided by his commitment to advance the long-term interests of Taraba State.

“I will officially transition from the PDP to the APC on November 19. This movement is about the destiny and future of the people of Taraba,” he said, adding that preparations were underway to receive guests expected at the event.

When asked whether his defection was tied to any conditions, the governor stated clearly that none were attached.

Members of the Taraba State Executive Council had earlier endorsed the governor’s decision. Addressing reporters on behalf of the cabinet, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Muslim Aruwa, said all political appointees and allies would accompany the governor to his new party.

“The governor is our leader. Wherever he goes, we go with him,” Aruwa said, noting that aligning with the Federal Government was aimed at accelerating development in the state.

He added that the move reflected the collective interest of Taraba residents.
“This movement is for the entire people of Taraba State, and we are with him 100 per cent,” he said.

Governor Kefas’ defection is expected to significantly reshape Taraba’s political landscape, particularly as the APC strengthens its appeal across the North-East region.
