
The Organising Committee of the 3rd North-East Grassroots Development Summit has on Monday released a shortlist of 30 local government chairmen and prominent development stakeholders nominated for recognition at the 2025 North-East Grassroots Development Impact Awards.
The nominees were selected following recommendations from reputable media organisations and an independent performance assessment conducted across the six states of the North-East.
Prof. Ibrahim Mohammed, Chairman of the Organising Committee, said the award aims to celebrate transformational leadership at the grassroots and strengthen community-focused development in the region.
“The North-East Grassroots Development Impact Awards, which will be a major highlight of the Summit, were designed to spotlight innovative and accountable leaders who are driving meaningful change within their communities. These honourees have shown that with vision and commitment, the grassroots can truly be engines of development and hope,” he said.

Also shortlisted are the Commissioners for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs of Gombe and Bauchi States — Hon. Abdulkadir Mohammed Waziri and Hon. Isa Babayo Tilde — alongside several other development actors.
According to the organisers, award winners will be selected by a jury comprising development experts from across the region.
The Summit, now in its third edition, has become a major platform for dialogue and reform in subnational governance, bringing together local councils, state ministries, development agencies and international partners to strengthen collaboration and accelerate inclusive growth.
In addition to the awards, all shortlisted individuals and organisations will be featured in a Compendium of Grassroots Development Impact-Makers in the North-East, to be unveiled after the Summit. The publication is expected to serve as a lasting record of transformational contributions to community development.
The 3rd North-East Local Governments Development Summit and Grassroots Development Impact Awards will hold from Dec. 9 to 10 at the Crepe Event Centre, with the Managing Director/CEO of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mr Mohammad Goni Alkali, scheduled to deliver the keynote address.
