Wurkum Chiefdom Commends 6 Brigade for Restoring Stability in Karim Lamido

The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) has received commendation from the Wurkum Chiefdom for its decisive intervention in restoring peace and stability in communities affected by communal tensions in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

A high-powered delegation from the Chiefdom, led by Mr. Iliya Idris, representative of the Chief of Wurkum, paid a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of 6 Brigade in Jalingo on Thursday to convey the community’s appreciation to the Brigade Commander, officers, and troops.

Idris, who spoke during the visit, lauded the Brigade’s swift response to the crisis involving the Shomo and Wurkum communities, describing the intervention as “timely, impartial, and professionally executed.” He said the Army’s actions averted what could have escalated into widespread communal violence, particularly in Usmanu Village, one of the previous tension hotspots.

According to him, the continuous presence and monitoring by troops not only curbed hostilities but also restored public confidence in security institutions and government authorities.

“The entire Wurkum community remains grateful for the neutrality and professionalism displayed by the Nigerian Army. Their intervention has brought calm, encouraged dialogue, and allowed residents to return to their homes and livelihoods without fear,” he said.

Idris further assured the Brigade of the Chiefdom’s readiness to cooperate with security agencies in sustaining the peace, while urging residents to embrace tolerance, unity, and lawful conflict resolution mechanisms.

He also extended condolences to the Nigerian Army over the recent passing of Brigadier General M. Uba, describing the loss as painful for communities that benefited from his service and sacrifice.

Responding, the Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, thanked the delegation for their visit and expressed appreciation for the community’s support.

He stressed that the stability achieved in Karim Lamido was the result of collaboration among security agencies, the Taraba State Government, traditional rulers, and residents who have been providing credible information to aid military operations.

General Uwa reiterated the Brigade’s commitment to fairness, professionalism, and respect for human rights, noting that the Nigerian Army remains determined to defend all communities without bias.

He encouraged youths and community leaders to remain law-abiding, cooperate with constituted authorities, and support peace-building initiatives across the state.

“Our objective is to create an environment where sustainable peace and development can thrive. Every community—regardless of size or tribe—deserves to live without fear and pursue its aspirations in security and harmony,” he said.

The statement was issued by Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army.
