Troops Repel Large-Scale Terrorist Night Attack on Chibok Communities

Troops of the Nigerian Army have repelled a major overnight attack on communities in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, foiling an assault launched by more than 300 Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters from multiple directions.

The attempted attack began around 2:50 a.m. on Sunday, according to a military statement. Soldiers of the 28 Task Force Brigade, who were already on heightened alert, detected early movement of the terrorists and immediately took up battle positions. A fierce firefight ensued for over two hours, during which troops successfully held off the coordinated offensive and prevented the attackers from advancing into nearby communities.

At first light, the terrorists began retreating in disarray toward the Azir axis of the Sambisa Forest, attempting to cross the Damboa–Biu Main Supply Route. In response, the 25 Brigade was deployed to pre-designated ambush positions near the Azir Bridge to intercept the fleeing fighters. The operation was supported by real-time surveillance from a Nigerian Army unmanned aerial vehicle.

The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai also joined the effort, deploying a Super Tucano aircraft to support ground forces and disrupt enemy movement. Confronted with intensified pressure from both ground and air assets, the terrorists scattered and their withdrawal was further contained by advancing troops.

The Army reported that no personnel or equipment was lost, describing the outcome as a testament to the troops’ vigilance, professionalism and combat readiness.

Exploitation operations are continuing in and around Chibok to track down escaping fighters and block their movement routes. The military also confirmed it has obtained aerial footage showing the mass withdrawal of the terrorists, which is currently being analysed to support follow-up operations.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding communities and maintaining pressure on terrorist elements across the region.
