The Police Command in Borno has confirmed that its operatives repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Malari village in Konduga Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Nahum Daso, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Maiduguri that a coordinated search-and-rescue operation had been launched to secure the release of three farmers abducted during the incident.
Daso said the attack occurred on Nov. 30 when the insurgents, riding on more than 15 motorcycles, stormed the community and began shooting sporadically.
He said a 15-year-old boy, identified as Basha Goigoi from Muna, sustained a gunshot wound to the right thigh. The victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Maiduguri, where he is receiving medical attention.
According to him, three residents — Alhaji Kundili, 35; Baba Goni, 45; and Modu Baluye, 50 — were abducted by the attackers while working on their farms.
“Our operatives in Konduga responded swiftly, engaged the terrorists in a gun duel and successfully repelled the attack,” Daso said.
He added that a joint team comprising the military, police tactical squads, Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters had been deployed to track the perpetrators and rescue the missing farmers.
The PPRO urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
