Troops Arrest Notorious Kidnap Kingpin Fidelis Guyama in Taraba–Benue Operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected notorious kidnap kingpin, Fidelis Guyama, believed to be a mastermind of several kidnapping and armed robbery incidents across Taraba, Benue and Plateau states.

Guyama was arrested on December 21, 2025, during an intelligence-driven operation conducted by troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari under the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke.

The arrest took place at Vaase community in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, following credible intelligence on the suspect’s movement and hideout.

Military sources said Guyama, who had been on the wanted list of security agencies in both Taraba and Benue states, is alleged to have coordinated several criminal activities under the guise of armed herdsmen terrorising communities and travellers within the region.

He is also believed to be linked to another suspected bandit known as “Dogo,” who has been accused of leading attacks and criminal operations along the Kente–Wukari road in Taraba State.

The arrest of Guyama is seen as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating along the Taraba–Benue–Plateau axis.

Security authorities said the suspect is currently in custody and will be handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation and prosecution.

The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements to restore peace and security across the North-Central and North-East regions.
