Taraba Education Commissioner Inspects Fire-Damaged GSSS Jalingo, Pledges Government Support

The Taraba State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Augustina, has visited the Government Science Secondary School (GSSS), Jalingo, to assess the extent of damage caused by a recent fire outbreak that destroyed the school’s multipurpose examination hall.

During the inspection, the commissioner described the incident as unfortunate and expressed sympathy with the school management, staff and students over the loss of the facility.

Dr Augustina reaffirmed the commitment of the Agbu Kefas administration to safeguarding public education infrastructure and ensuring that teaching and learning are not disrupted.

She assured the school community that the state government would carry out a comprehensive assessment of the damage and take necessary steps to restore the affected facilities as quickly as possible.

The commissioner also stressed the importance of strengthening safety standards in public schools, calling for improved fire-prevention and control measures to avert similar incidents in the future.

She noted that the state government remains resolute in providing a safe and conducive learning environment for students across Taraba State.

No life was lost in the incident, while investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
