The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has proposed a 45 per cent salary increment for non-teaching staff, rejecting the 30 per cent allowance increase currently circulating on social media.
This is contained in a statement issued by Dr Nura Garba, Secretary of SSANU-BUK branch, following a Special NEC meeting of the union held at SSANU Secretariat in Abuja on Saturday, which focused on the ongoing renegotiation of the SSANU agreement with the Federal Government of Nigeria.
According to the statement, the NEC deliberated extensively on the proposed 30 per cent increment and unanimously rejected it, stating that it fell short of acceptable collective bargaining standards.
SSANU noted that although its initial demand was a 100 per cent increment, ongoing negotiations involving proposals and counter-proposals had led the union to adopt a revised negotiating position of a 45 per cent salary increase.
The council also directed the Federal Government to conclude and sign the renegotiated agreement on or before April 30, 2026.
It warned that failure to meet the deadline could result in a total, indefinite and comprehensive strike action by SSANU in collaboration with the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) under the Joint Action Committee (JAC).
The union further urged members to remain united and continue supporting efforts aimed at securing improved welfare and working conditions.
