UNIMAID Debunks Viral Video Linking Students to Boko Haram Collaboration

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has categorically debunked a viral video circulating on social media platforms alleging that some of its students were arrested for collaborating with Boko Haram insurgents.

In a press release issued by the Office of the Registrar on Tuesday, the university management described the claims as “totally baseless, false and mischievous.”

The statement, signed by Registrar Ahmad A. Lawan, said: “No student of the University has been found to have links with Boko Haram Insurgents or any other similar groups.”

Lawan emphasised that the university has never tolerated any form of extremism or violence, adding that UNIMAID has consistently been at the forefront of countering violent extremism, promoting peace, and supporting national security efforts in the North East region.

“The University community consists of disciplined, law-abiding staff and students drawn from diverse backgrounds. Our students are trained in both character and learning, have demonstrated good behavior and remain committed to their studies,” the release stated.

The management urged parents, guardians, and the general public to disregard the misinformation and refrain from spreading the false narrative, citing its potential negative impact.

UNIMAID reiterated its steadfast commitment to academic excellence, moral discipline, and the promotion of peace, security, and national unity.

The development comes amid ongoing security challenges in the North East, where Boko Haram and splinter groups have historically targeted educational institutions and communities.
