FG Begins January Salary Payments Despite Missing FAAC Details

Salary payments for January have commenced in some federal ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) despite the continued delay in the release of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) communiqué for the month.

Checks on Friday confirmed that workers in selected MDAs, including the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), began receiving their January salaries.

Affected staff confirmed that the payments reflected the approved yearly increments, easing concerns that the delay in FAAC revenue allocation details could disrupt wage disbursements across government institutions.

The development comes amid growing public concern over the non-release of the FAAC communiqué for January 2026, more than a week after the meeting was held.

The FAAC communiqué traditionally outlines revenue shared among the Federal Government, states and local governments and serves as a key fiscal reference point for public sector spending.

While analysts have warned that prolonged delays in FAAC allocations could affect salary payments, especially at the sub-national level, the commencement of payments in some federal MDAs suggests that the Federal Government may be drawing from alternative funding arrangements or previously secured resources.

However, concerns remain over the possible impact of the FAAC delay on states and local governments, many of which rely heavily on monthly allocations to meet salary and operational obligations.

Financial experts have repeatedly called on relevant authorities to clarify the status of the January FAAC allocation to ensure transparency and avert fiscal uncertainty across the three tiers of government.

As of Friday, there was no official statement explaining the delay in the release of the January FAAC allocation details.
