Taraba launches seed production firm to boost agriculture

The Taraba State Government has launched Taraba Seed Production Limited in Lau Local Government Area as part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity and drive socio-economic development across the state.

Governor Agbu Kefas, who performed the inauguration on Thursday, said the initiative was designed to produce hybrid seedlings that would improve farmers’ yields and strengthen Taraba’s contribution to the national agricultural value chain.

According to the governor, the seed production company will ensure farmers’ access to high-quality, certified and climate-resilient seeds, capable of withstanding changing weather patterns and enhancing food security.

He said the project aligns with his administration’s commitment to reposition agriculture as a key driver of economic growth, employment generation and rural development in the state.

Kefas added that the government would also embark on the construction of the road linking Lau to other parts of the state to improve accessibility and open up the area for increased economic activities.

“The combination of quality seed production and improved infrastructure will empower our farmers, attract investment and stimulate growth in this axis of the state,” he said.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue implementing people-oriented projects that support farmers and promote sustainable development across Taraba State.

He called on stakeholders in the agricultural sector to partner with the state government to maximise the benefits of the initiative and ensure its long-term success.
