EFCC nabs three over alleged Naira mutilation in Maiduguri

The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three individuals over alleged mutilation of the Nigerian currency.

The suspects, identified as Adam Muhammad, Muhammad Muhammad and Bashir Musa, were apprehended following a viral video circulated on social media platforms.

In the video, the trio were allegedly seen cleaning mucus from their noses with a N500 note, an act considered an abuse and mutilation of the Naira under Nigerian law.

According to the Commission, the video prompted swift action as operatives traced and arrested the suspects within the Maiduguri metropolis.

The EFCC stated that the suspects are currently in custody at the Maiduguri detention facility, where investigations are ongoing.

The Commission added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
