The Borno State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and security conscious as Muslims enter the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, made the call in a public service announcement issued on Monday in Maiduguri.
Daso said the period usually witnesses increased movements and gatherings, particularly during Tafsir, Iftar and night prayers.
He advised residents to remain mindful of their surroundings while observing religious activities during the sacred period.
“The Command recognises the spiritual importance of this period, but residents are kindly advised to remain security conscious and take necessary precautions while attending religious gatherings,” he said.
The PPRO urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or objects to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency contact lines.
He also cautioned parents and guardians against leaving their children unattended, especially in crowded places, places of worship and public gatherings.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has directed the intensification of patrols and surveillance across Maiduguri and other parts of the state.
He said the measure was aimed at ensuring the safety and security of residents throughout the remaining days of Ramadan.
Daso called for continued cooperation from residents, stressing that security was a collective responsibility.
He advised members of the public to contact the police through the emergency lines: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293 to report suspicious activities.
The command also wished Muslim faithful a peaceful and spiritually rewarding last ten days of Ramadan.
