UNIMAID Introduces 15 Electric Tricycles to Ease Student Transportation

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Prof. Muhammad Laminu Mele, has commissioned 15 electric tricycles to enhance transportation within the institution’s campus.

The commissioning ceremony took place on Tuesday at the university’s Works Department in Maiduguri.

Speaking at the event, Mele said the initiative, funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), was designed to improve student mobility and provide affordable transportation services within the campus.

He urged students to use the tricycles responsibly, noting that the project was introduced to ease movement across the large campus and reduce the transportation burden on students.

According to the vice-chancellor, the introduction of the electric tricycles is also part of the university’s efforts to cushion the impact of prevailing economic hardship by providing cost-effective transport options.

He expressed appreciation to TETFund for supporting the initiative, adding that the intervention would significantly enhance daily commuting for students and staff within the university community.
