The Adamawa State Government has flagged off an electric mobility initiative aimed at rolling out 1,000 electric tricycles to boost youth empowerment, reduce dependence on petrol, and improve transport efficiency across the state.
Governor Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri disclosed this on Monday at the Mahmud Ribadu Square during the commissioning of the assembly plan and rollout programme for electric tricycles in the state.
He said the initiative was part of his administration’s “Fresh Air” agenda, designed to improve livelihoods, especially among young people, through sustainable transport and energy solutions.
Fintiri said the state had entered a partnership with private sector players, including Sparrow Mobility Limited, to develop electric transport systems and tackle long-standing transportation challenges.
According to him, the government would procure and distribute 1,000 electric tricycles at subsidised rates to youths across the state, adding that over 6,000 households have already benefited from solar energy installations in various local government areas.
He said the project aligns with broader efforts to expand renewable energy access and economic opportunities in the state.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Transport Development, Wunfe Anthony, said the initiative would reduce operational costs for tricycle operators, ease transportation challenges, and contribute to economic growth.
She noted that the collaboration between the ministry and project partners had already produced positive outcomes in the transport sector.
Also speaking, the Group Chief Executive Officer of A4&T Company, Ayodeji Ademilua, said the company began engagement with Adamawa State in May 2025 after assessing its economic potential.
He said the electric tricycles represent sustainability, affordability, and economic transformation, while commending the government for creating an enabling environment for investors.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, said several mini-grid projects with a combined capacity of about 35 megawatts had been deployed across the state, with more ongoing.
He attributed the progress to Governor Fintiri’s commitment to expanding energy access.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Adamawa State, Dr. Barth Nyalas, and the General Manager of Adamawa Sunshine, Muhammad Tukur Abbo, described Fintiri as a transformative leader whose administration had delivered significant development across sectors.
Highlights of the event included the formal commissioning of the electric tricycles, inspection of the company’s facility at Federal Housing Estate, Girei Local Government Area, and a visit to the solar energy farm at Modibbo Adama University Yola.
