The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions has demanded a 100 per cent upward review of salaries for polytechnic workers as part of ongoing negotiations with the Federal Government on workers’ welfare and sector revitalisation.
The union made the demand during the second meeting of the NOTSUP/Federal Government renegotiation technical sub-committee held on April 10, 2026.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the union said discussions focused on key issues affecting welfare, career development and institutional strengthening in the polytechnic sector.
NOTSUP called for the urgent finalisation and implementation of schemes and conditions of service by the National Board for Technical Education and the Federal Ministry of Education.
The union also demanded structured career progression to CONTIDESS 15 for registry, library, bursary and technical cadres.
Among other demands, NOTSUP urged the Federal Government to establish a National Commission for Polytechnics with headquarters in Abuja to oversee the sector independently.
The union further sought a 50:50 allocation of Tertiary Education Trust Fund training support between teaching and non-teaching staff.
On infrastructure, the union called for the provision of well-equipped laboratories, workshops and studios across federal polytechnics.
NOTSUP also demanded that officers on CONTEDISS 15 should retire with their full terminal salaries, while staff on CONTEDISS 11 and below should receive arrears of CONTISS 15 benefits dating back to 2010.
The union equally sought the removal of career stagnation for Higher National Diploma holders, proposing entry placement at CONTEDISS 9/1 with progression to Grade Level 17.
Other demands included restoration of Federal Polytechnic staff schools, payment of peculiar earned allowances amounting to 50 per cent of basic salary and a 500 per cent increase in recurrent and overhead funding for polytechnics.
The union also advocated reforms in pension administration, including a simplified next-of-kin process and payment of death benefits within 60 days.
NOTSUP said it remained committed to achieving the objectives of the negotiation and urged members to remain united and supportive as talks continue.
The communiqué was signed by the Assistant General Secretary of the union on April 11, 2026.
