Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the upgrade of the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Ngelzarma to a General Hospital as part of efforts to expand access to quality healthcare services across the state.
Buni said the approval became necessary to meet the growing healthcare needs of residents of Ngelzarma and neighbouring communities.
According to the governor, the decision aligns with his administration’s ongoing reforms in the health sector, which he described as a priority area of government.
“This is in line with the reform declared in the health sector by our administration. Healthcare development occupies a prominent position on our priority list,” he said.
The governor assured that the state government would provide the necessary medical equipment and facilities required to enable the hospital operate in line with the standards of a general hospital.
The latest upgrade follows similar interventions by the Buni administration, which had earlier converted eight primary healthcare centres in Bara, Buni Gari, Babbangida, Yunusari, Machina, Jajimaji, Nguru and Gulani into general hospitals.
The administration also upgraded the General Hospitals in Potiskum, Gashua, Geidam and Buni Yadi to specialist hospitals to improve access to advanced healthcare services across the state.
The government said the latest development reflects its commitment to strengthening the state’s healthcare system by expanding infrastructure and improving access to quality medical services for residents.
