Gombe partners NITDA to boost digital skills of civil servants

The Gombe State Government has partnered with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to strengthen the digital capacity of civil servants through a comprehensive Digital Literacy Training Programme.

The programme, organised by the Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission (GOSIDEC) in collaboration with NITDA, is designed to equip public servants with the digital skills and competencies required for efficient service delivery in a technology-driven environment.

Inaugurating the training, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, said the initiative aligned with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to building a digitally empowered workforce capable of delivering efficient, transparent and citizen-centred services.

Njodi said rapid technological advancement had transformed governance globally, making digital literacy an essential requirement for every public servant.

> “The world is undergoing unprecedented technological transformation, and governments across the globe are leveraging digital solutions to improve efficiency, transparency, accountability and responsiveness in service delivery. Our civil servants must therefore possess the requisite digital skills to effectively navigate this new reality,” he said.

He noted that the partnership between GOSIDEC and NITDA came at a critical time when governments increasingly relied on technology to improve governance and public service delivery.

According to him, Governor Inuwa Yahaya has consistently prioritised digital transformation and human capital development as key pillars of the state’s socio-economic growth, with a focus on building an innovative and efficient civil service.

Also speaking, the Head of Civil Service, Prof. Mu’azu Shehu, described digital literacy as a strategic necessity for modern governance, saying it would not only improve productivity but also strengthen the capacity of public institutions to prevent and respond to cyber threats.

He urged participants to maximise the opportunity by acquiring practical knowledge in emerging technologies and their application in public administration.

Shehu also commended GOSIDEC and NITDA for the initiative, assuring that the state government would continue deploying technology-driven solutions to improve efficiency, transparency and accountability in governance.

The Acting Head of Training at NITDA’s zonal office, Engr. Yakubu Musa, said digital literacy had become indispensable for relevance and productivity in today’s workplace.

He noted that civil servants occupy a strategic position in policy implementation and service delivery, making continuous ICT capacity development imperative.

According to him, the collaboration between NITDA and GOSIDEC is aimed at empowering Gombe’s workforce with digital competencies that will drive innovation and improve public service delivery.

In a goodwill message, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr. Abubakar Hassan, represented by Deputy Director Hauwa Mohammed, described the programme as timely, saying investment in digital skills was an investment in the future of the public service.

Earlier, the Director-General of GOSIDEC, Dr. Al-Amin Barambu, said the training marked another milestone in Gombe State’s drive toward digital transformation and the creation of a knowledge-based public service.

He described digital literacy as a vital tool for productivity, innovation and effective governance, while commending NITDA for promoting digital inclusion and capacity development across the country.

Barambu reiterated the commitment of the Inuwa Yahaya administration to building a technologically advanced and globally competitive civil service.

The training is expected to equip participants with practical digital skills that will enhance efficiency, improve public service delivery and accelerate Gombe State’s transition to a fully digitally enabled government.
