The Gombe State Gymnastic Team showcased their prowess and talent at the recently concluded Northeast Gymnastic Championship held in Bauchi, clinching an impressive second-place finish behind hosts Bauchi State.
Amidst fierce competition, Team Gombe emerged victorious, securing a total of 23 medals. The team’s outstanding performance included four gold medals, 13 silver medals, and six bronze medals, underscoring their dedication and skill on the mat.
Leading the charge for Team Gombe was Munyal Kwairanga, whose exceptional talent earned her four gold medals and the overall best gymnast from the state, highlighting her mastery of the sport. Additionally, Mustapha Saminu Sallah was honoured with a bronze medal as the youngest gymnast, a testament to his promising future in the discipline.
Among the standout gymnasts representing Gombe State were Hussaini A. Garba, Umar Abubakar, Mubarak Abdullahi Madi, Istifanus Bitrus, Aliyu Mohammed, Abubakar Abdullahi Madi, Abdulbas Mohammed, Hussaini Muhammad, Shamgar E. Sabo, Emmanuel Bitrus, Aliyu Adamu, Saidu Hamisu, and the aforementioned Mustapha Saminu Sallah. In the girls’ category, Munyal Kwairanga and Esther Emmanuel showcased their exceptional skills, contributing to the team’s success.
Behind the scenes, Coach Elkanah S. Laboli and a dedicated coaching crew, including Judge Adamu, Musa Judge, Aminu Mohammed, and Hussaini Muhammad, played pivotal roles in nurturing and guiding the team to their remarkable achievements.
