The Federal Government of Nigeria has kickstarted the process of transforming the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Azare, located in the Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, into a teaching hospital.
Dr. Jimoh Olawole Salaudeen, the Director of Hospital Services at the Federal Ministry of Health, made this announcement while visiting the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Dr. Umar Faruq II.
Dr. Salaudeen explained that their team’s presence in Azare was part of an assessment visit aimed at preparing for the conversion of the FMC into a teaching hospital to enhance healthcare services in the region.
He highlighted the advantageous proximity of the Federal University of Health Sciences Azare (FUHSA) to the FMC in Azare, which would facilitate the seamless transition for improved medical education and service delivery.
The assessment visit is intended to help the Federal Government identify areas for improvement and assess the existing resources, including personnel, infrastructure, equipment, and land availability, to lay the foundation for future expansions.
In response, the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruq II, commended President Bola Tinubu for spearheading the initiative to convert FMC Azare into a teaching hospital, expressing optimism that this move would enhance healthcare delivery to the citizens.
