The Gombe State Police Command on Saturday announced the rescue of a 17-year-old Gombe woman, Rabi Abdul, who was kidnapped and taken to Zange forest by some herdsmen.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, while briefing journalists on Friday, said Malam Abba of Ardo Wumnu village via Zange, Dukku Local Government Area was one of the suspects.
According to Abdullahi, Rabi was taken hostage after her husband escaped the herders’ attack.
He said, “On 19th May 2024, a team of Policemen and hunters while on joint operation at Zange village, Dukku LGA trailed the footsteps of herders suspected to be cattle rustlers which led them to one house in Zange forest.
“On reaching the said house they met the occupant one Malam Abba ‘m’ of Ardo Wummi village-Zange ward Dukku LGA, upon interrogation he confessed to having hidden a kidnapped victim in the house by name Rabi Abdul,17 years of Akkoyel village, Akko LGA a wife to Alhaji Abdu Bello who escaped kidnapping sometimes back.
“The team rescued the said victim and took her to General Hospital Dukku for medical attention where she was treated and discharged.”
The Police boss stated that the suspect confessed to the crime and would soon be charged to court for prosecution.
He further stated that four suspects are at large and that the police in Gombe are putting all efforts in place to arrest the fleeing suspects.
Abdullahi warned perpetrators against such acts, stating that culprits would not be allowed to escape justice.
