A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years imprisonment over corruption linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects.
Justice James Omotosho, who delivered the judgment, convicted Mamman on a 12-count charge bordering on corruption and misappropriation of funds tied to the multi-billion naira power projects.
The court held that the prison terms would run consecutively, bringing the total sentence to 75 years.
Justice Omotosho further ruled that the sentence would commence from the day the former minister is arrested and ordered all security agencies to apprehend him wherever he is found.
The judge also directed that all monies and properties recovered from Mamman be forfeited to the Federal Government.
In addition, the court ordered the former minister to refund the outstanding balance from the alleged N22bn linked to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric power projects.
The case is one of the high-profile corruption prosecutions involving former public officials in Nigeria’s power sector.
