Indefinite Curfew Imposed in Maiduguri, Jere, Relaxes Restrictions For Friday Prayers

The Borno State Security Council has imposed an indefinite curfew within Maiduguri Metropolis and Jere Local Government Area due to ongoing security challenges. The curfew, which is effective immediately, requires residents to remain within their localities until further notice.

According to Prof. Usman Tar, Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Borno State, a brief relaxation of the curfew will be allowed on Friday to enable Muslim faithful to participate in the Jumaat Congregation Prayers. Residents are permitted to attend prayers at Mosques nearest to their communities between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm.

Following the prayers, the curfew will be reinstated at 3:00 pm on Friday, August 2, 2024, and remain in place until further notice. Security operatives have been deployed to critical locations to enforce the curfew, and anyone found violating it will face the full force of the law.

The Borno State Government has assured citizens that the curfew will be reviewed as the security situation improves. In the meantime, residents are urged to cooperate with security agencies and remain vigilant.
