The Adamawa State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has expressed its profound appreciation to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for implementing the N70,000 minimum wage for state workers.
Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, Chairman of the NLC, led a delegation to the Governor’s office at the Government House on Monday in Yola to thank him for fulfilling his promise. Fashe described Governor Fintiri as “the people’s Governor and friend of the labour union” for keeping his word.
The labour leader praised the Governor for surpassing workers’ expectations, stating that this gesture has made workers across the state jubilant.
He pledged that workers would reciprocate by dedicating themselves to duty, implementing the Governor’s policies and programs, and transforming the state into the “Adamawa of the Governor’s dream.”
Governor Fintiri, responding with gratitude, said the decision to implement the minimum wage was reached amicably within 30 minutes due to the cordial relationship between the government and labour union.
He expressed delight that the decision has made the people happy and noted that the government is also satisfied with the friendly labour union’s sacrifices.
The Governor called on the federal government to review its policies, stating that the N70,000 minimum wage is not sufficient considering current market realities.
He announced that the executive would send a demand to the legislature to adjust the law binding salaries of judiciary, accountant general office, state assembly workers, and others to benefit from the new minimum wage by September.
Governor Fintiri encouraged citizens to engage in farming, reiterating the government’s commitment to concrete policies that can change lives, rather than relying on palliatives.
He applauded the labour union for creating an enabling environment for the government to succeed and urged them to always count on the government.
