Ministers of Water Resources Visit Gombe, Debunk Dadin Kowa Dam Collapse Reports

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Joseph T. Utsev, and his Minister of State, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, on wednesday visited the Dadin Kowa Dam in Gombe state to inspect the facility following reports of its collapse.

Contrary to the reports, the ministers confirmed that the dam is fully operational and has not collapsed. They attributed the misinformation to the observation of water flowing from the spillway, reassuring the public that the dam’s reservoir is functioning normally.

The ministers commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his visionary leadership in establishing the Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park, which has seen significant progress and is expected to attract multibillion-naira investments and generate substantial employment opportunities.

They emphasized the importance of verifying information before dissemination to the public and praised the state government’s commitment to collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation in ensuring the safety and stability of water infrastructure.

The Acting Managing Director of the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority, Engr. Caleb T. Tyowuah, highlighted the dam’s capacity to provide water for irrigation to 5,000 hectares of farmlands and its contribution to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.
