The Borno State Government is appealing to residents to remain calm, assuring them that power will soon be restored to all parts of the metropolis and Jere Local Government Area.
On December 21st, 2023, TCN’s tower T372 near Katsaita Village in Yobe State was vandalised, causing a blackout in Yobe and certain areas of Borno.
Aliyu Mohammed Bamanga, the State Commissioner of Transport and Energy, made this assurance in a statement on Saturday.
The commissioner stated, “The Borno State Government has coordinated and brought together all stakeholders, and the Maiduguri Emergency Backup system was activated, restoring power to parts of the city.”
The commissioner conveyed Governor Zulum’s concern about the blackout and his commitment to resolving it promptly.
He stated, “Governor Zulum expressed deep concern over the power outage and its adverse effects on the people of Borno State. He acknowledged the hardships faced by citizens and emphasized that the Borno State Government will continue to encourage all relevant stakeholders and ensure that all necessary efforts are being mobilized to expedite the restoration of power to other areas currently without electricity.”
The commissioner expressed gratitude to the federal government, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), among other stakeholders.
