Comrade Samaila Sadiq has emerged as the new Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), University of Maiduguri chapter.
Sadiq secured 325 votes to defeat his opponent, Haruna Idi, who polled 161 votes, with 4 invalid votes, in the keenly contested election held on Tuesday at Elkanemi Hall, University of Maiduguri.
Until his election, Sadiq is a Senior Assistant Registrar II and had previously served as the Secretary of the union. He is also a member of the Zonal Executive Committee and the National Executive Committee of SSANU.
Additionally, Sadiq is a member of the Borno State Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and has actively participated in bilateral meetings between the Federal Government and university unions. He has been instrumental in mobilizing staff for protests aimed at improving the welfare of university workers.
The election was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere, with members of the association commending the process for its transparency and fairness.
